Fun with Jill Maas heads

What spirited fun we had at Hello Dollies in Newcastle on 18 April. We made Noeline, a Jill Maas pin doll , using Jill's needle scuplting technique. While we had instructions printed, we were led and guided through the process. - thanks Fay! Even for those who had needle sculpted faces before, this was new learning, resulting in such unique personalities depicted in the faces. After a short break, with a really great show and tell of previous months' patterns , a few Mrs Chalumeau dolls, and other creative beautiful dolls, quilts, beading and embroidery, we had a "lucky dip" of paper bags filled with interesting embellishments for our doll heads. It was such great fun to open a mystery bag and decorate and finish the little Noeline heads with newly acquired "hair", beads, buttons and bows ... It also challenged us to use bits and pieces we might not have chosen for ourselves. Thanks to all who contributed bags of stuff from their personal stashes.

A message for Sydney Dollies - remember to bring a paper bag of bits and pieces to swap . This is too much fun to miss out on. I am sure you will enjoy making your Noelines as much as we did in Newcastle. We all went home happy and brimming with ideas ... and of course inspired to make this month's pattern by our Dolly friend Marilyn Halcomb.

Hello Dollies with Pam Kenta

The March meetings were such great fun, informative and entertaining. Dollmaker, Pam Kenta, visited Hello Dollies. Pam had everyone in raptures as she talked about "the early days" of dollmaking in Australia, showed her dolls and shared the poems which she composed for her dolls. The photo shows Pam ( far left, flying) at the 1995 Doll Symposium at Anne's Glory Box where elinor peace bailey and Julie McCullough were the tutors. There are some current Hello Dollies members there too! I am so sorry I missed it all, but from all accounts, it was a really great meeting. Thanks, Pam.

Now to the April meeting .... you will get your newsletter very soon. Look out for this page - you will be asked to do some preparation for this month's meeting. Don't panic - you can do it - it's fun!
If you haven't already booked for the "Apronology" class with Fay on 9th June., it would be wise to do so quickly. Just $15 and a muffin recipe for a fun day of making fabulous aprons - yes, they are making a comeback as a fashion statement. Look at these that Fay has made as samples. As an apron wearer, I am disapppointed that I won't be in the country to attend this class- these samples are beautiful...

See you at Dollies on 18th April in Newcastle and 25th April in Sydney.
Happy Easter to all , Wilma
